Owning a fast, flashy car that makes Silverstone whimper like a disciplined child is the dream for most avid motorists.
But there are those of us who favour impressive functionality to finishing first.
Rather than vault on the accelerator as though it were a colony of murderous ants, we – the more tranquil but no less competitive of the petroleum-assisted species – want to show off our vehicle’s ability to give a Thai massage while parallel parking.
The problem is, it’s becoming increasingly hard, amid the gadget arms race of on-board computers, smartphones and MP3s and electronics, to achieve the technologically-induced high that used to come from showing a friend that your car knows how far it can roll before it needs its next drink.
If you’re one of the unfortunates affected, have no fear. We have the car accessories you need to scratch that itch. And they’re all real and available to buy now.
If you’re in a rush for work and you’ve missed your morning java, you can now defy your favourite high-street coffee chain for you can have the marvel of hot water courtesy of your own in-car kettle.
No longer will you have to queue in the cold yearning for your coffee fix. Just sit back and enjoy the warmth of your car while your kettle slowly simmers. And we mean slowly, it can take 18 minutes to boil.
We’ve all been there. You pitch up in a car park roughly the size of Basingstoke, make a note of the lot and the geographical landmarks like Bear Grylls always tells you to do before heading off to do a spot of shopping.
You return fatigued, insolvent and completely dispensed of all prior knowledge - including where you parked. Unless you have your GPS-enabled phone on you, you could be searching for hours.
Thankfully, the GPS keychain can show you the way. Once you’ve saved the location of where your wheels are, even the most monumental stint in town won’t be enough to prevent this device from guiding you back.
Many of us have often wanted to communicate some kind of message to the drivers around us. Whether it’s ‘you drive really well’ or ‘I’ll wager that you can’t get your van that close to my bumper again!’, conversing with fellow drivers is one of the most enriching experiences of owning an automobile.
The Messenger’s scrolling lights attach to the back window inside the car and can flash up any message of the drivers choosing in bright red for all to see. Of course, you shouldn’t fiddle with it while you’re actually driving.
If you’re on the road and feeling peckish but don’t fancy the delicacies served up by Britain’s finest fast food restaurants, the Porta-Pizza Oven is the answer to your gastronomic prayers.
The oven features two settings, one to cook anything relatively flat and the other to warm up anything relatively flat - perfect for those summer road trips.
Technology is much sweeter when it helps save the environment and save money. An experimental smartphone app created by boffins at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) aims to do just that.
By monitoring traffic lights and congestion from these eco-warrior phones, researchers say they can cut the amount of fuel you use by 20 per cent.
All you have to do is pop your phone down on your dashboard before you set off and it will tell you how fast you should be driving to avoid being stuck at the lights. Simple and effective.

Car GPS systems are almost a must nowadays. Other than being a great directional aid, GPS devices are greatly utilized for security purposes.

A phone kit wouldn't be a bad idea either if you use your smartphone as an audio device.
