Will Thomas, head of motor at Confused.com, takes on a customer car insurance query.
Question: My car insurance has come up for renewal after just 10 months – I thought I’d signed up for a year. What’s happened?
Answer: A number of companies allow drivers to sign up for a 10-month policy, at the end of which they qualify for a full year’s no-claims bonus.
These bonus-accelerator policies are designed to help motorists who’ve recently made claims, or who have only recently started driving.
For example, by taking out three consecutive accelerator policies, you’d build up a three-year no claims bonus in just two-and-a-half years.
